This release builds on Ubuntu MATE beta 2 and mostly fixes bugs. Ubuntu Mate is now official flavor of Ubuntu family and its first official version announced started with 15.04 Vivid: “Ubuntu MATE 15.04 is now available for download. We are providing you virtual images for latest version of Kubuntu 15.04 Vivid for VirtualBox and VMware.
Non-KDE applications include LibreOffice 4.4 and Firefox 37.” You can read here release announcement. Several applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 but those which aren’t should fit in seamlessly. This is the 14.12.2 update with bug fixes and translation updates. Kubuntu comes with KDE Applications 14.12 containing all your favourite apps from KDE. The second set of updates to Plasma 5 are now stable enough for everyday use and is the default in this version of Kubuntu. Kubuntu team announced the latest version Kubuntu 15.04 Vivid: “Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE’s desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. You can download VDI and VMDK images for VirtualBox & VMware from here. We are providing you virtual images for latest version of Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid for VirtualBox and VMware. Upstart continues to control user sessions… You can boot with Upstart once by selecting `Advanced options for Ubuntu’ in the GRUB boot menu and starting the `Ubuntu, with Linux … (upstart)’ entry. The only service which does not currently start is Juju, which will be fixed in a post-release update soon all other packaged Ubuntu services are expected to work.
At the time of the 15.04 release there are no known major problems which prevent booting. systemd has replaced Upstart as the standard boot and service manager on all Ubuntu flavors except Touch. Canonical announced the latest version of Ubuntu codenamed 15.04 Vivid: “Ubuntu 15.04 will be supported for 9 months for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Core, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin along with all other flavours.
